OPPORTUNITY FOR JUNIORS & SENIORS

 

The Louisiana Lions Camp is now accepting applications for summer staff positions including Junior Counselor (minimum age 16), Senior Counselor (minimum age 18), Activity Instructors and assistants (minimum age 18).  Students with current certifications may apply for Lifeguard positions.

The camping season runs from June 9 through July 25.  Staff members are hired for the full season only. (Seven weeks)

The Louisiana Lions Camp is a nonprofit organization owned and funded by the Lions Clubs of Louisiana.  Campers are aged 7 - 19, attend camp through the sponsorship of their local Lions Club.  Lions Camp is located north of Leesville, La. with modern facilities for housing up to 80 campers per week.  The program is nationally accredited by the American Camp Association.

Camp provides: a week of training, room and board, insurance, time off, and lots of challenges.  Junior Counselors receive $630.00 for the season.  Senior Counselors receive $875.00 for the season.

Graduating Seniors may apply for one of ten $500.00 and four $1,000.00 scholarships which are awarded at the end of camp to qualified applicants.

If you are looking for a teaching and learning experience, hard work, and a lifetime of memories; we are looking for several mature, responsible, and motivated young adults to help provide Summer Camp for Louisiana's Special Children.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS

A-Hec of A Summer - If you are interested in the medical profession, this is a wonderful volunteer program to add to your resume.
This program requires students to submit a $20 fee and a commitment of approximately 90 hours as a health care volunteer over a two or three week period during the summer.  Participants must attend all scheduled program activities.  The program dates for this year's program will be June 1 - June 14, 2010

This is a competitive program.  The deadline for applications to Mrs. Johnson is March 10.  Pick up applications in Mrs. Johnson's office as soon as possible.

Student Athletes  if you intend to play at the college level, you MUST be registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse.  You are not eligible to make any campus visits with recruiters until you have take the ACT and registered with http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.net/.  Note ACT/GPA requirements on the website.  ACT scores must be sent directly from ACT.  List ACT code 9999 for one of your college selections when registering for the ACT.

SELECTIVE SERVICE  All 18 year old males must register with Selective Service.  Financial aid for college (and some college registration) will not be considered without it.  This just became easier.  Mrs. Johnson has completed the paperwork, taken the oath of office and is now a Selective Service Registrar.  If you are nearing your 18th birthday, come by the office to register.

TOPS Louisiana'sTuition Opportunity Program for Students is a comprehensive program of state scholarships and one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation.  TOPS has two award components. You may find more information about the TOPS program by going to

PELL GRANTS  Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students based on financial need, the cost of attending school, whether the student is full-time or part-time and whether the student is attending school for a full academic year or less.  Award amounts depend on program funding.  Pell Grand funds are disbursed directly to the school, paid directly to the student, or disbursed by a combination of these methods.  The Pell Grant program is administered by the financial aid office of participating schools.  Pell grants do not have to be repaid.
 
FREE APPLICATION TO FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) For 2008-2009 paper FAFSAs will not be available for order to schools.  Students/Parents wil be able to obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243.  Student may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive their FAFSAs in three to seven business days.  New for 2008-2009 is a pdf version of the FAFSA that students can submit for processing.  Beginning in mid-November the pdf will be available for download on various Federal Student Aid web sites, such as www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov.  Students can access the pdf, complete the form on the computer or by hand, and mail it to the address provided for processing.  REMEMBER that this form also serves as your TOPS Application.
